About Peter
Ever since I was a child I’ve been interested in nature and simplicity and in exploring life outside of the status quo. My great grandfather was an artist, herbalist and visionary and although I never met him I took great pleasure and inspiration in the stories my father told me about him. I was a shy child but my parents enrolled me in the Boy Scouts when I was 10 years old and I fell in love with camping and all things involving woods craft . As a pre-teen and then a teenager I imagined myself living in the woods alone in communion with the natural world and although my life has taken a more complicated route I have nonetheless maintained a strong focus on natural rhythms. I have studied and experimented extensively with various forms of diet and exercise over 35 years and have continued to refine a simple way of living with a strong focus on primal outdoor pursuits.
I have worked in the natural foods business for close to 30 years and have a deep knowledge about different approaches to eating. I have worked as a raw foods chef on different occasions both as a caterer and as a vendor. I work one on one with clients as a personal trainer with a focus on strength training through weight lifting and calisthenics.
I am a group leader with the Washington Backpackers MeetUp Group and take groups on backpacking trips throughout Virginia and West Virginia. I also lead small groups on week-long trips to Ireland each summer where we explore by foot unique wild parts of the country. The emphasis is on remote walks in stunning locations while staying in self catering hostel accommodation.

On my blog, I will focus on exercise, food, backpacking and simple living and how I approach each of these areas. I will write about some of my travels, discuss my approach to strength training and walking and give examples of some of my favourite recipes. One of the best ways to spend time in the outdoors is to go backpacking, we will also look at simple ways to enjoy sleeping in the woods by focusing on my preferred gear and how to eat well while on the move.

I will talk about simple strategies for making physical activity a natural part of our daily lives no matter how busy we are.
